`Sue Morris was born in England and is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London. Since the early nineties she has lived in Ireland, most recently in Derry, Northern Ireland. Her multidisciplinary practice utilizes drawing, text, printmaking, film, photography, sound and installation. Her work explores notions of the known and unknown particularly around re-imagined and alternative histories.
Morris has exhibited extensively in Ireland, the UK and internationally. Recent exhibitions include those at the Queen Street Studios Gallery, Belfast, Northern Ireland; the Verbal Arts Centre, Derry, Northern Ireland; the Lockhart Gallery, State University New York, USA; the Kunstverein Galerie, Baden bei Wien and museumORTH, Orth an der Danau, Austria, as part of the International Cultural Programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the EU; Tartu Loomemajanduskeskus, Estonia; and Artisterium 7,International Contemporary Art Exhibition, Tibilisi, Georgia.
She has had recent residencies at Cló Ceardlann, Donegal, Ireland; AIR Krems, Austria; Trükimuuseum, Tartu, Estonia; and the Heinrich Böll Residency on Achill Island. Recent awards and bursaries include the individual artists bursary from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the artists travel bursary from Culture Ireland.
Her recent collaborative project, I can say this with absolute certainty, I was there, with media academics Greg McLaughlin and Steve Baker was exhibited at Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, 2014. It was shortlisted for EVA, International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Limerick, 2014 and longlisted for the Art Raker Award for Creativity in Art and Conflict, London 2014.
